Privacy and notices
The short version
This is a personal academic site. It has no accounts, no forms, no comments and no ads. It stores a theme choice and a game score in your own browser, sets no cookies, and counts visits with Cloudflare’s cookie-free analytics.

What the site collects
- Server logs. The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details (page, browser, country) to deliver pages, block abuse and produce aggregate traffic statistics for me. I do not receive or keep individual-level logs.
- Stored in your browser, never sent anywhere. Your theme choice (
theme), your best score in the spike-sorting game (localStorage), this session’s game runs (sessionStorage). Clear site data to remove them. - Fonts, images, video and code are all served from this site. No font, script or tracker from another company loads.
- Photos and videos were stripped of location and device metadata before upload. Videos have no audio track.
Analytics and cookies
This site sets no cookies. To see how many people read which pages, it uses Cloudflare Web Analytics (and Cloudflare’s own traffic statistics, since Cloudflare serves the site). Cloudflare describes it as privacy-first: it does not use cookies or local storage to follow you, does not fingerprint your browser and does not build a profile of you across sites. I only see totals, such as page views, popular pages, referrers, countries and browser types. There is no advertising and no social-media tracker on this site.
If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the analytics script is not loaded. Cloudflare’s own notice is at cloudflare.com/web-analytics.
Links to other sites
Papers, labs, Google Scholar, LinkedIn, GitHub and similar links open other people’s websites, which have their own privacy practices. Outbound links use rel="noopener", and your browser only sends them this site’s origin as the referrer.
Your rights and contact
Because I do not keep personal data about visitors, there is normally nothing to access, correct or delete. If you are in the EU, UK or California and want to ask anyway, or you want to report a security problem, email shashankbansal56@gmail.com.

- Views are my own. This is a personal site. It is not an official page of UC San Diego or of any lab, employer or funder, and nothing here speaks for them. Lab and institution names and logos belong to their owners and appear only to say where I have worked or studied.
- Education, not medical advice. The Learn pages and the sensing explainers simplify real research. They are not medical advice and do not describe a cleared or approved medical device. Numbers marked illustrative are teaching examples, not measurements.
- Papers and links. I link to papers and describe them in my own words. The papers belong to their authors and publishers, and I cannot promise that every link, DOI or description stays current. Please tell me about any mistakes.
- Content and copyright. Text, drawings, code written for this site and my photographs are © Shashank Bansal, all rights reserved, unless a page says otherwise. Open-source libraries keep their own licenses. Please ask before reusing photos or figures, and credit the original papers when citing the science.
- Accuracy. I try to keep everything correct and current, but the site is provided as is, without warranty.
